Postsecondary institutions across Canada recently celebrated Ocean Week and World Ocean Day through a variety of educational and environmental initiatives. Events included specialized talks on Canadian Antarctic research and whale safety measures at Camosun College and Dalhousie University, respectively. Additionally, Toronto Metropolitan University honored marine and freshwater environments through a collaborative mural project involving students, faculty, and staff.
Toronto Metropolitan University is hosting the "Wave of Change" mural event on June 5, 2025, to celebrate World Oceans Week and National Indigenous Peoples Month. Held at the SLC Amphitheatre, this open invitation for students, faculty, and staff encourages participants to create a collaborative artwork using reclaimed materials from the TMU Free Store. The initiative integrates Indigenous and Western knowledge systems to highlight the importance of water protection, Indigenous leadership, and the urgent need for ocean conservation. By engaging in this creative activity, the TMU community reflects on its shared responsibility to reduce waste and protect marine ecosystems for future generations.
