Ocean Week Victoria is launching a ten-day series of marine exploration events across Greater Victoria from May 30 to June 8, culminating in World Ocean Day. The volunteer-led initiative features over 30 mostly free activities, including guided paddles, beach cleanups, science talks, and interactive festivals hosted by more than 25 local organizations. Launched in 2020, the program aims to educate residents about the ocean’s vital role in producing oxygen and acting as a carbon sink while encouraging conservation efforts. Thanks to funding from Centre for Ocean Literacy Collaboration, Ocean Week Canada, Water Rangers, Manitoba Habitat Conservancy's Conservation Trust, and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, Watersheds Canada was in Winnipeg, MB for a week to deliver 23 workshops for over 500 grades K-8 students at Sage Creek School! Students completed hands-on art activities and experiments as they learned about watersheds, local fish species, water quality testing, and the importance of protecting our freshwater areas.
